Bill of Materials (BOM)

A bill of materials (bill of material or BOM) is a list of sub-assemblies, parts and the quantities of each needed to manufacture an end product. All manufacturers start by creating a bill of materials (BOM).

Several departments (engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and more) add to and consume the data contained within the BOM. Typical additions to the BOM include stock/non-stock categorization, supplier information, costing information, materials information, inventory tracking and many more.

Export BOM to CSV
With Glovius, you can export BOM data and save as a CSV file. BOM exported from Glovius defines the product as designed (engineering bill of materials). The following options are available while exporting BOM to CSV

  • Top - This lists the top or the first level of components in the assembly. It displays the components directly needed to make the assembly or sub-assembly.
  • Part - This option lists all the parts and the quantities required for each part.
  • Assembly – This option lists the sub-assemblies in the assembly.

The exported BOM CSV from Glovius contains the part/sub-assembly names and quantity. In the next release, we will add attributes like part number, unit of measure, description etc.

BOM export feature is available with all Glovius CAD viewers including CATIA V5, STEP/IGES and JT. For a free 7-day trial, please visit the downloads page.

Glovius v3.2 for Android is now available!

Glovius v3.2 for Android is now available on Google Play & Amazon Android Appstore. This release brings in the following new features -

  1. All new “My Files” interface – We have completely overhauled the “My Files” interface, combining the files available on disk, as well as those available in your Babel3D account, but not yet downloaded. You can tap any file to download on the device. Simultaneous downloads are also supported now, making it easy for you to get all your models in one shot. Tap a downloaded file to open. You can also search for files using the new “Search” box on top.
  2. Shadows – Glovius now displays Shadows in the graphics area. You can switch this off from the Settings menu.
  3. Model Views – Files containing “Model Views” will now be able to display them using a preview strip in the graphics area. To switch to a “Model View”, simply press its preview image. Model Views govern the visibility of components and PMI as well as camera orientation. Model Views in JT & CATIA V5 files (known as Captures) are exported in the Glovius mobile format.

Compare 3D CAD files

Design is an iterative process. As the design of a component is fine-tuned, some features are added, altered or completely removed. This leads to successive iterations of 3D files with differences that are difficult to communicate with the extended team, especially since the changes are iterative with very minor visual modifications.

Using Glovius, you can compare any two 3D models to find out the differences. Use the Compare feature to visually see the changes in any two versions of a 3D component. You can compare 3D part and assembly files from various formats such as Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Pro/ENGINEER & Creo, CATIA V5, STEP, IGES and many more.

The example above highlights the differences between two versions of an assembly. The result is shown with the unchanged (translucent), added (shown in green) and removed (shown in red) information. You can also save a report of the changes or compare attribute information and assembly structure that is different within these files.

The 3D Compare feature is available with the Pro Plan ($39/month, free 7-day trial). Compare feature is also included in Glovius CAD Viewer bundles for CATIA V4/V5NXPro/ENGINEERSolidWorksSTEP/IGES.

Glovius 3.4 for Windows is here!

We are really excited to announce Glovius v3.4 for Windows. This release adds powerful new features like Compare Models, Export BOM and Add/Edit/Delete Attributes. In addition, we have made improvements in measurement, performance, user interface and export to glovius mobile format.

Compare Models

Compare any two models, and visualize differences in Glovius. Both parts and assemblies are supported. Model comparison is based on tessellation, attributes, and assembly structure. The graphics area displays added and removed material between the two models. Unchanged material is displayed in a translucent manner to provide additional context.

Other Highlights

  1. Measurements are now faster and look better, thanks to filled arrows and improved line thickness. Measuring section profiles is now possible. Measurement placement has also been improved.
  2. Files will open faster with significant performance improvement during rotation.
  3. Progress bar is more dependable.
  4. There is an all new add-on manager interface.
  5. Exporting to Glovius Mobile is now faster and creates more compact glovius files, resulting in improved performance on Glovius iOS & Android apps.
