Glovius 4.0 for Windows is here!

Posted by with 0 Comments in Windows Read More →

Our mission at Glovius is to offer you modern 3D viewers that are affordable and easy to use. Release 4.0 makes Glovius easier, faster and more robust.

Whats new

1. User Interface Improvements

A cleaner ribbon
The ribbon interface is now cleaner. Compare, Move and Analyze tools have been grouped together. PMI filters have been moved to the annotation tree. Export to Glovius is now available in the Save dialog. JT Editor features have moved to the Save dialog.

Glovius Ribbon Bar

Progress bar
For larger files, you can check the file open progress from the task bar. This helps you work on other items while you wait for Glovius to open large assemblies.

Annotations Tree
The Annotations tree now includes filters, which were previously part of the ribbon bar on top. This makes the filters more contextual and meaningful.

Missing parts notification
Assemblies with missing parts will show an orange icon in the status bar. Missing components will be highlighted in red in the component tree. Users can select and load the missing parts by clicking on the component name in the tree.

2. Performance Improvements

Glovius will open 3D models faster. 43% faster, compared to Glovius 3.9.

This optimization will be available for all types of parts and assembly files, including CATParts/CATProducts, SLDPRT/SLDASM, PRT/ASM, STEP, IGES file formats.

Glovius 4.0 Performance

3. Bug fixes

Glovius 4.0 fixes known bugs in floating license configuration, wireframe rotation, and opening of VRML files. JT files will load faster with this release.

What’s next?

For the next release, we continue our work on performance. Our focus remains the file open time, and better memory management, so that Glovius can do more with less memory. Improvements in Markup are also in the pipeline.

Bill of Materials (BOM)

Posted by with 7 Comments in Windows Read More →

A bill of materials (bill of material or BOM) is a list of sub-assemblies, parts and the quantities of each needed to manufacture an end product. All manufacturers start by creating a bill of materials (BOM).

Several departments (engineering, manufacturing, purchasing, and more) add to and consume the data contained within the BOM. Typical additions to the BOM include stock/non-stock categorization, supplier information, costing information, materials information, inventory tracking and many more.

Export BOM to CSV
With Glovius, you can export BOM data and save as a CSV file. BOM exported from Glovius defines the product as designed (engineering bill of materials). The following options are available while exporting BOM to CSV

  • Top – This lists the top or the first level of components in the assembly. It displays the components directly needed to make the assembly or sub-assembly.
  • Part – This option lists all the parts and the quantities required for each part.
  • Assembly – This option lists the sub-assemblies in the assembly.

The exported BOM CSV from Glovius contains the part/sub-assembly names and quantity. In the next release, we will add attributes like part number, unit of measure, description etc.

BOM export feature is available with all Glovius CAD viewers including CATIA V5, STEP/IGES and JT. For a free 7-day trial, please visit the downloads page.

Compare 3D CAD files

Design is an iterative process. As the design of a component is fine-tuned, some features are added, altered or completely removed. This leads to successive iterations of 3D files with differences that are difficult to communicate with the extended team, especially since the changes are iterative with very minor visual modifications.

Using Glovius, you can compare any two 3D models to find out the differences. Use the Compare feature to visually see the changes in any two versions of a 3D component. You can compare 3D part and assembly files from various formats such as Siemens NX, SolidWorks, Solid Edge, Pro/ENGINEER & Creo, CATIA V5, STEP, IGES and many more.

The example above highlights the differences between two versions of an assembly. The result is shown with the unchanged (translucent), added (shown in green) and removed (shown in red) information. You can also save a report of the changes or compare attribute information and assembly structure that is different within these files.

The 3D Compare feature is available with the Pro Plan ($39/month, free 7-day trial). Compare feature is also included in Glovius CAD Viewer bundles for CATIA V4/V5NXPro/ENGINEERSolidWorksSTEP/IGES.

Glovius 3.4 for Windows is here!

Posted by with 0 Comments in Windows Read More →

We are really excited to announce Glovius v3.4 for Windows. This release adds powerful new features like Compare Models, Export BOM and Add/Edit/Delete Attributes. In addition, we have made improvements in measurement, performance, user interface and export to glovius mobile format.

Compare Models

Compare any two models, and visualize differences in Glovius. Both parts and assemblies are supported. Model comparison is based on tessellation, attributes, and assembly structure. The graphics area displays added and removed material between the two models. Unchanged material is displayed in a translucent manner to provide additional context.

Other Highlights

  1. Measurements are now faster and look better, thanks to filled arrows and improved line thickness. Measuring section profiles is now possible. Measurement placement has also been improved.
  2. Files will open faster with significant performance improvement during rotation.
  3. Progress bar is more dependable.
  4. There is an all new add-on manager interface.
  5. Exporting to Glovius Mobile is now faster and creates more compact glovius files, resulting in improved performance on Glovius iOS & Android apps.
