Hatching Effect in Sectioning

We are pleased to announce a new enhancement to Glovius Section functionality. This enhancement improves the visual display of components during Sectioning by quickly segregating and identifying various components of the model. In case of an assembly, multiple hatching patterns are applied to distinguish the components for visual legibility.

Hatching Pattern in CAD Components

Hatching effect is turned on by default and you can turn it off by toggling the Hatching button in Glovius. Give this enhancement a spin and give us your feedback by reaching out to us at support@glovius.com

Here’s a short video explaining the feature :

Generate Quick 3D PDF reports

Collaboration among teams and references to contextual 3d data is essential during the design lifecycle of a component. To enable faster collaboration and providing contextual information, Glovius has an inbuilt 3D PDF report generator. Using this tool, you can generate a single, concise 3DPDF report containing the prominent information about the component. This 3D PDF report contains

  1. 3D Visualization data
  2. Attributes data
  3. BoM report with Part Number, Quantity, Bounding box dimensions and Component Image

To generate a 3D PDF report using Glovius, Open a file in Glovius, Click on the Export tab and Click on 3D Report to generate this document.

Download a sample 3D PDF report file and open it in Adobe PDF reader to view the report.

Download Glovius and give the export to 3D PDF report a try and collaborate faster.

Introducing Glovius 2D Viewer

Technical Drawings or 2D drawings as they are popularly known convey lot of instantly glance-able information. Due to the international adoption of drawing standards these drawings are especially useful in collaboration by capturing the geometric features of the components. We had many of our users asking for support to 2D files.

Today,  we are happy to announce Glovius 2D – a free* DWG and DXF file viewer.
Glovius 2D Viewer is free for all Glovius customers. Download Glovius and give the 2D Viewer a try.

2D Viewer

Glovius for Should Costing Analysis

Many Glovius users are from Purchasing and Should Costing teams. Product designers need to identify unproductive manufacturing costs early in the product life cycle. Designers and Sourcers are faced with stringent cost targets as companies optimize to provide maximum product value.

Should-Cost analysis helps in these scenarios and empowers product manufacturers to break down costs analytically and iterate based on the cost structure. According to some estimates, conducting Should Costing reviews can reduce the cost of total systems by 5 to 15 percent and sub systems cost by up to 40 percent!

Glovius offers a number of tools to help calculate the cost of manufacturing of a component.

Start with the BOM Report

Create a Bill of Materials Report in Glovius

Generate a part level Bill of Materials report in CSV format and import it in Microsoft Excel. The report contains the dimensions of the component, quantity, material (if specified) and serves as a start point for your Should-Cost calculations. For parts, use the Analyse dialog to instantly get the component bounds, mass properties and other relevant information.

Compare Models

Compare revisions

Compare revisions in Glovius

If you receive an iteration of a previous component – use the Compare tool and find the differences in 3D design to calculate the delta value in cost accordingly. Use the measure tool to better understand the changes. You can also save the comparison results in PDF for sharing and collaboration.

Component Visibility
